5 Useful Apps For Every Athlete

In the digital age, the mobile phone is our constant companion. It is easy to get lost in the wide variety of apps. To avoid installing an app that won’t ever be used here are five useful apps that are worth a look for your daily life as an athlete.

SuperFood

One of my favorite apps for recipes designed in a modern look offers everything the heart desires. The user-friendly interface lets you browse quickly to get you closer to your next healthy meal. Besides the usual categories starter, main, dessert, and drinks you can look for vegan, vegetarian or fish-based options. There is also a possibility to search for low-carb, low-fat, or high-protein recipes. Once you have chosen a recipe you can select the number of portions and the app will adjust the required quantity of ingredients. With a simple click on the shopping icon next to the ingredient, it gets added to the in-app shopping list. Another tab lists the nutritional value of each recipe with an overview of calories, carbs, proteins, and fats.

This app is not only a collection of mouth-watering healthy recipes. A calendar about seasonal fruits and veggies (to plan eco-friendly meals), a shopping list, and an info section about superfoods like chili, ginger, turmeric, and line seeds make this app so convenient.

Summary
  • healthy recipes
  • in-app shopping list
  • calendar for seasonal fruits and veggies
  • big search engine with specific filters
Intervall Timer

This app is simple but indispensible when working out on your own. Intervall sessions are stressfree with this application. No more time wasting by checking the watch. Just set the number of reps, work time, and resting time. Turn up the volume and start your workout. A beep sound marks start and end of work and resting time. If you want to do more sets simply hit the restart button.

Summary
  • simple design
  • quick set up
  • hands-free timer
MyFitnessPal

MyFitnessPal is an easy way to track your diet. By scanning every food you are consuming the app calculates nutrients, calories, and vitamins. This is useful to evaluate patterns and what your diet is missing or where you need to cut back a little.

Detailed tracking of your diet goes in hand with expenditure. As a remedy, the app offers an overview of your most-used products so that you can quickly add them every day without scanning them again. On top of that, the MyFitnessPal Recipe Importer enables you to add a whole recipe to your list.

Summary
  • overview of macro and micronutrients
  • free app
  • recipe importer
  • quick calorie counter
Strava

The fitness app tracks your runs and rides via GPS watch, smartphone, or bike computer. Besides recording your activities Strava is a social network that allows you to follow and compete with friends, local rivals, and pros.

The application lets you record many outdoor activities with the focus on biking, running, and hiking. A documented activity offers an insight view of the total traveled distance, average and maximum speed, elevation and estimated power and energy output. Stravas specialty are the so-called “segments”. Your route is divided into those segments, enabling you to compete with the wider Strava network for the fastest time.

After adding your friends, their activities show up on your dashboard feed. You can give kudos and comment on activities. It’s an easy way to keep up motivation.

Summary
  • track your runs and rides
  • connect with friends and other athletes
  • connectable with most GPS watches & bike computers
Smiling Mind

Smiling Mind is a meditation app for a wide variety of ages and situations. A team of psychologists has developed the application with the aim to make mindfulness meditation accessible to all. The non-profit organization has a vision to help every mind flourish.
