From Fun to Triathlete Pro – Lina Völker

“My dad has done triathlon and I was so impressed by it that I wanted to give it a try myself, which worked out quite well. I have tried other sports, like handball, but nothing made me as happy as triathlon did. When I first started, I never aimed for being a professional athlete. It was meant to be just for fun. Racing just gave me so much happiness that I kept investing more and more time. Triathlon is kind of unique, in that there are all different types of athletes. This makes for a less predictable result at times. My greatest moment was finishing the Junior European Championships in Lisbon at 12th place. I feel like nobody really appreciated it, but for me it has been my biggest moment so far. I proved that I can compete on that level which was a great feeling. Another special moment was my first Elite European Cup in Olsztyn, Poland, in 2018. I finished 13th place, which was a huge achievement for the first race after a break of a year due to an illness. It reminded me why I love triathlon so much.”
